The Value Of Cornerstone Content

Cornerstone Content Typewriter

My client, DarkHorseOdds is a matched betting website that gives its clients the tools they need to successfully make money using sportsbook arbitrage.

I have been working with the owners of the website since December.

One of the first goals that we had was to create an informative piece of content to designate as cornerstone content.

But what is cornerstone content?

My friends over WordStream define cornerstone content as “…a high-value, foundational piece of content”.

The “Why” behind cornerstone content depends on the brand. For some brands it’s about brand awareness, for other brands it’s about showcasing different products or services. In this case, we decided that it was crucial for DarkHorse Odds to educate users on what matched betting actually is, why they should care, and how they could benefit from using the service.

From an SEO standpoint, cornerstone content is a great way to build in internal linking to pass around the link equity that you’ll gain from this high value piece of content, reduce the website’s bounce rate, and rank for both targeted short-tail and long-tail keywords.

Within 6 months, we went from not ranking for any matched betting related keywords to being on or within striking distance of the first page for the majority of our targeted keywords that were decided during keyword research, including ranking #14 for “Matched Betting”. DarkHorse Odds is the only website with a Domain Rating (DR) under 44 that is in the top 20 ranking for this keyword.
